A little more responsibility than a "Regular cat", but it is worth every bath.
Your furless baby will require a bath at least every two weeks. Unlike regular cats, sphynx produce skin oils that result in accumulated dirt and grime so they require a little extra help staying squeeky clean.
Soap... It's Important.
Choosing the perfect soap for your Sphynx is super important. Sphynx tend to have sensitive skin so using the right stuff makes a world of difference. We recommend ReNewed pet. All of their products are completely natural and have minimum ingredients. We use this on our Sphynx and it works amazing and leaves their skin feeling so smooth. ReNewed pet also offers ear, paw and booty cleaner as well which is a lifesaver! You can find this soap by looking up "ReNewed Pet" on google. There are other soap options but we have found that this brand works the best for us!
Ears, Nails and Booty.
When you are giving your sphynx their bath we always recommend trimming nails and getting all the gunk out from their little toes first! We use baby nail clippers, weird I know. But it is the easiest way we have found to trim those little daggers. To get the gunk out we use a small q-tip and ReNewed pets tail cleaner and it gets the job done! After that ears! Depending on your sphynx whether it is a regular ear or an elf ear they get black wax built up in those cute little ears. To clean them we use a cotton pad and ReNewed pets ear cleaner! Try to avoid using q-tips in their ears as it does tend to push debris further into the ear canal, if you are not careful this could also rupture the eardrum. So avoiding using q-tips when you can is the best! If you aren't quite sure what to do youtube is a huge help! Now last but not least, that little booty of theirs once in awhile will require a bit of attention from you. Some Sphynx are great about cleaning it but others not so much. We use the Booty Scrub from ReNewed Pet with their exfoilating glove, This normally isn't an every bath type of thing but could need done once in awhile! After you finished all of this wash their body with shampoo, rinse and then use conditioner and rinse. Dry them off with a nice warm towel and have a yummy treat ready for them.
Chilly Kitty...
Your Sphynx is more prone to getting chilly than regular cats are. Typically if you are cold then your sphynx is too. During the winter months it is important to keep them warm since they aren't able to do that themselves. If your sphynx will let you dress them up then a nice warm sweater or kitty jumper will help keep them warm and as a bonus will help protect their skin. You can find kitty clothes on Amazon or etsy. If your Sphynx won't let you then having a kitty heating pad and plently of cozy blankets will do the trick.
When your Sphynx gets too cold they tend to develop peach fuzz and a little fur on their ears, feet, tail and sometimes hips. Don't be alarmed when this happens, it normally only will last in the winter and they will go back to their normal hairless self in the spring.
Teeth.
Fun fact, sphynx teeth will sometimes end up stained from grooming themselves. The oil on their skin will stain their teeth a darker color. This can be easily avoided though through baths and brushing their teeth! The tooth paste from Renewed pet works great and is chicken flavor so they think they're getting a treat. We recommend that your Sphynx teeth get brushed once a month.
Yes, your sphynx will require a little more of you than a normal cat. But it is so worth all the baths and the ear scrubs. Typically your sphynx won't throw too much of a fit because they have been getting baths most of their life. But if they are not huge fans, having someone help you and holding a lickable treat almost always fixes that and allows you to bathe them real quick without causing you or your kitty stress!
