Sphynx Info & Care
PERSONALITY...
The Sphynx is named in the top 5 friendliest cat breeds. They are loving companions who are perfect for people who live alone, extremely gentle and patient with young children. Amazing therapy pets. They are a super fun addition to a large family who loves animals. They are extremely easy to travel with as long as they have a comfy blanket to snuggle on with their favorite sweater. They are all around a perfect fit for just about anyone who will take the time to get to know this amazing breed. They each have their own unique personality, they are curious and possibly the most affectionate cat breed. They are very social and love any warm creature that they can snuggle up to. They are the most cuddly of the cat breeds, snuggling up under a blanket with you while you watch a movie or taking up half the bed sleeping with you at night and will always insist on sleeping with you. They are playful and love toys and cat trees. These kitties are extremely smart and can learn tricks. The silliest ever and will have you laughing constantly. They love their sunbaths. These sweethearts are very acrobatic but can be a little clumsy at times. They are hairless and can get chilly easily so they will need a wardrobe. They produce body oils and will need to be wiped down or given a bath. But good news they don't mind the water. Overall they are the most perfect pet and can be addicting, like potato chips... you can't just have one.
HYPOALLERGENIC?
Sphynx are thought to be hypoallergenic because well, they have no hair. But that is not the case. They are not hypoallergenic, but have been known to be one of the only breeds with relatively less allergenicity. The feline species produces 6 known antigens that cause sensitivity in humans. The most defined antigens are "Feline d-1 protein" and "Feline albumin". These are carried by all cat breeds, so no cat breed is 100% hypoallergenic. Sphynx however produce less of these proteins which trigger allergic responses. But with saying that there are no studies that have done so this has not yet been proven factual. We can say however that the sphynx lack of fur makes it more difficult to concentrate and store allergens secreted by the skin.
SKIN TYPES...
Believe it or not there are actually a few different types of skin that a sphynx can have. Crazy enough not all of them are completely bald and there are also different degrees in texture of their fur. The first one we are going to talk about and is the most common is Rubber/Sticky bald. These Sphynx will feel completely bald and will possibly have very little hair on their nose, feet or tail. Next is completely hairless, they have the perfect balance between baldness and a very fine peach fuzz coat. They are very smooth and require less bathing. Another type is felt fuzz, these sweeties appear to be completely bald, but to the touch or closely looking they have slight stubble that feels like felt. The last is peach fuzz., they appear naked but has soft peach fuzz on their ears, face, tail and feet.
